If you've been wondering what actually comes in the BrushPod and how each component works, this video walkthrough by James (and guest starring Kuba) shows you everything you need to know!
In short: The BrushPod is a complete cat grooming toolkit containing four items: a catnip-infused brush with soft bristles suitable for all coat types, soft-touch claw clippers, a 3-in-1 laser toy with UV light for detecting cat urine, and a six-month supply of catnip and silvervine blend. The catnip goes inside the brush head, which helps cats who normally resist grooming to actually enjoy the experience.
Why was the BrushPod created?
The idea came from the observation that many cats don't enjoy being brushed, particularly older cats who need grooming more regularly but often can't reach their lower back easily themselves.
We wanted to create something that uses catnip in an inventive way. When you put the catnip blend inside the brush head, most cats genuinely enjoy the grooming session rather than tolerating it or running away.
What's in the box?
The packaging features embossed detailing and comes well-presented, making it a ready-to-give gift without additional wrapping.
Inside you'll find clear instructions explaining how everything works. The BrushPod is more than just a brush. It's actually a complete toolkit.
The components are neatly organised with an elastic strap holding the brush on top of the main pot. Inside the pot you'll find the claw clippers, catnip tube, and 3-in-1 laser toy.
How does the brush work?
The brush has soft bristles suitable for any cat coat, whether your cat is short-haired, medium-haired, or long-haired.
On top of the brush head there's a removable bung. Pull this off and that's where you put the catnip blend inside. Just add roughly a spoonful, replace the bung, and you're ready to go.
When you brush your cat, they can smell the catnip through the bristles. This creates positive associations with grooming sessions rather than stress or resistance.
The bristles collect fur effectively, and when you want to clean the brush, the collected fur comes off easily in one bunch.
What about the claw clippers?
The soft-touch claw clippers are ergonomic and easy to use. General advice is to trim only the front claws, not necessarily the back ones.
Claw trimming is most important when claws are becoming overgrown and starting to curve inwards toward the pads. This is particularly common in older cats and indoor cats who don't get the same natural wear on their claws as outdoor cats.
Regular trimming helps maintain good claw health, especially for senior cats. Some cats are trained from kittenhood to accept claw trimming, but even reluctant cats can learn to tolerate it with patience.
What does the 3-in-1 laser toy do?
The laser toy has three functions: a laser dot for play, a torch for general use, and a UV light setting.
The UV light is particularly useful for identifying where your cat has been spraying or urinating in the house. Those lingering smells you can't locate? The UV light reveals exactly where they are, so you can apply enzyme cleaners to the right spots.
The toy charges via USB. Just unscrew the cap to access the charging port.
One important note about laser play: Cats Protection advises making sure cats have a physical toy to catch at the end of a laser session, otherwise they can become frustrated from never completing the hunt. Interestingly, both Kuba and Leia like to nuzzle and bunny-kick the laser toy itself when it's left on the floor.
Why is it a blend of catnip and silvervine?
Not all cats respond to catnip. Research suggests around 30-50% of cats lack the genetic sensitivity to it.
However, approximately 70-80% of cats respond to silvervine (also called matatabi). By blending both compounds together, we maximise the chances that your cat will have a positive response.
The tube included contains enough blend to last six months or longer with regular use.
Does it actually work on cats who hate brushing?
Kuba, one of our British Shorthairs, didn't enjoy being brushed as a kitten. He's completely turned around since we started using the catnip-infused brush.
At 10 years old, Kuba now has some mild arthritis in his back legs, which means he doesn't groom his lower back and tail area as thoroughly as he used to. The BrushPod has been essential for preventing knots forming in these hard-to-reach areas. He still plays with the laser toy too!

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the brush suitable for long-haired cats?
Yes. The soft bristles work effectively on short, medium, and long-haired cats. For long-haired breeds, regular brushing with the BrushPod helps prevent matting, especially in areas cats struggle to groom themselves.
How often do I need to add more catnip to the brush?
The catnip scent remains effective for many brushing sessions. Top up the brush head when you notice your cat showing less interest. The included tube can last for years, just keep it sealed in the tube to lock in the freshness.
My cat doesn't respond to catnip. Will the BrushPod still work?
The blend includes silvervine (matatabi) alongside catnip. Research shows approximately 70-80% of cats respond to silvervine, including many cats who show no interest in catnip alone. This significantly increases the chances your cat will enjoy the experience.
Do I need to trim my cat's back claws too?
Generally, front claws need more attention than back claws. Focus on the front claws unless you notice the back claws becoming overgrown. Senior cats and indoor cats typically need more frequent trimming as their claws don't wear down naturally.
What's the UV light actually for?
The UV light reveals dried cat urine that's invisible to the naked eye. If you've been struggling with lingering smells you can't locate, the UV light shows exactly where your cat has sprayed or urinated so you can treat those specific areas with enzyme cleaners.
Is the laser toy safe to use with cats?
Laser play is safe when done properly. The key is to always end the session by letting your cat catch something physical, like a treat or toy, so they don't become frustrated from never completing the hunt. Short, occasional laser sessions work best.

Hi everybody. I'm James from Kuba and Leia. It's been a very long time since I've done a video, so I wanted to introduce the BrushPod to you.
It came from the idea that there are quite a lot of cats out there that don't often enjoy being brushed, particularly older cats where they do need to be groomed more regularly. They often can't reach their lower back very easily. And so we wanted to create something that uses catnip in quite an inventive way to essentially create a brush that when you put the catnip in, most cats really enjoy it.
So it's a great little product if you've got a cat that doesn't always enjoy being brushed, or if you're just looking for a gift for any cat owner. So this is a short unboxing video. Essentially if you buy a BrushPod from us, this is the packaging that you get.
It's got some beautiful embossing on it and it's really well packaged, so a great gift for someone.
Some really nice instructions just to explain how everything works, because it's more than just a brush, it's actually a toolkit. So inside, you will see, I just take it out.
This is what we've got. So we went with this simple elastic strap which holds the brush on top of the main pot, which has the claw clippers and the catnip tube inside, and also a three-in-one laser toy. So if I take it off, I'm going to start with the brush.
As you can see the brush has these really soft bristles. They are suitable for pretty much any cat coat. So it's good for short hairs, medium hair cats, and also long hair cats. And the way it works, you can see on the top it has a bung and you can pull this bung off, and that's where you put the catnip in inside.
Also inside, you get a pair of these claw clippers. These are soft-touch claw clippers and the colour is the same as the band. So they're really ergonomic and really easy to use. Great for clipping your cat's claws.
Just do the front ones, not necessarily the back ones. General advice is to only do it if they're getting overgrown claws. If you're seeing the claws that are starting to grow inwards where they might be starting to get into the pads.
It's really important, particularly true of older cats, that claws are clipped on a regular basis. I know not all cats respond well to having their claws clipped. Some are trained from when they're kittens. If you can get them to enjoy having their claws clipped then it is a really great way to make sure they've got good claw health.
So, claw clippers. We also have a three-in-one laser toy so it's got a laser function on it as well which if I could show you just on the sofa behind me. It has a torch.
And it also has a UV setting, which means that this is really important for being able to identify if your cat has been spraying or urinating in the house. For those horrible smells that you get, which you just can't get rid of.
But yeah, three-in-one laser toy and it's really easy to use. It's got a USB charger at the top as well, so you just unscrew the cap and you're good to go. And then finally, we have our tube of what we are calling the Perfect Blend. The reason it's called a blend is because it's actually a mix of catnip and silvervine, because not all cats actually respond to catnip.
About 70% of cats do respond to silvervine or matatabi. So we've put a blend in here to maximise the chances of your cats really getting the experience that they're looking for from the brush. And so just to show you how it works, take the bung off. And just probably put in literally a spoonful.
Put the bung back on. And then you're good to go. And this will last you six months if not longer. So the tube will last you a very long time.
Here's a BrushPod that we've been using before. So I just wanted to show how the brush actually collects fur. When you want to take the fur off you can see it's really simple. It comes off in a nice bunch like that.
So here's Kuba. Kuba as a kitten didn't really enjoy being brushed, but he has completely turned around now that we put the catnip in the brush head.
So Kuba's 10 years old now. We have noticed that he might be getting some mild arthritis in his back legs, so he doesn't groom his back legs or around his tail area as much as he used to. This is where the BrushPod really comes into play.
We've had to deal with some knots in his lower back, but now we think he's looking pretty good and he's still super playful, likes the laser toy.
One of the things worth mentioning about the laser toy, we were talking to Cats Protection about laser play and one of the things that is advised is to make sure they have a physical toy at the end of the play because otherwise they can get quite frustrated.
If they haven't actually got something physical to catch. Weirdly, sometimes I just leave this on the floor and Kuba will start, and Leia as well, will start to nuzzle it and play with it and do the rabbit kicks with it and that sort of thing. Yeah, so this is the BrushPod.
We only have a few hundred units left, so it's a great Christmas present. It's a great gift for any cat lover and it's £25 that includes postage and packaging. And if you go onto our website, you can get a five pound discount, which brings it down to £20.
Thanks for watching everybody. I hope you have a great Christmas and maybe you'll think about buying a little BrushPod from us. Thanks again for watching. Bye.
